The sidewalk sale
For two days in July , Sainte-Catherine Street celebrates summer with a frenzy of savings along a 2.3-kilometre stretch, as this venerable shopping artery is transformed into the biggest outdoor market in Canada . Consumers – more than 400,000 usually – are on hand to snap up the bargains while enjoying the street animation.
Sensation - Le Festival mode et design de Montréal
Destination centre-ville acts as a promoter in a partnership aimed to welcome on its territory the Sensation – Montreal Design and Fashion Festival event each year in June.
The Santa Claus Parade
More than 350,000 spectators gather along Sainte-Catherine Street every mid-November to welcome Santa and his parade. Children and parents are all smiles on this memorable day. In 2005, the Santa Claus Parade broadcasting aired december 24 and november 13, on the TVA network have reached more than 1 million viewers.
Music Everywhere!
In the lobbies of office buildings, in shopping centers or even on the streets! Musicians, singers and street performers can be heard and appreciated all year round in many districts of Downtown Montreal. However, the animation is much greater during the summer or throughout the Holiday Season in December.
The Downtown Ambassadors
From spring until fall, forty Ambassadors patrol the streets of Downtown Montreal in order to help to keep the area clean while helping visitors and citizens with tourist information. Walking on the sidewalk or riding their bike, they are easily recognizable in their blue and gold uniforms, moving around downtown streets, noting and reporting to the proper authorities any unusual situation, particularly problems related to cleanliness, security or vandalism.
Dialogue on homelessness
In conjunction with the YMCA, the Dialogue project seeks to reduce the number of beggars and homeless people in the downtown area. Two professionals are constantly in the field, working on the social reintegration of vagrants and beggars. |
