3 indoor activities to do in downtown Montreal this month
- On the agenda
In December, the temperature begins to drop and the cold settles quietly over Montreal. However, the weather shouldn't change your plans, as there are many indoor activities available in downtown Montreal this month.
The thermostat only indicates temperatures below zero Celsius? No problem at all! To keep you warm during winter, here are some activities you could do in downtown Montreal this month.
1. A symphony orchestra concert
On December 17 and 19, OSM and some of Quebec’s best voices will come together at Maison symphonique to perform classic holiday songs. Let yourself be swept away by the incredible talent of Marie-Nicole Lemieux, Étienne Dupuis, and the Petits Chanteurs du Mont-Royal.
Another great option is to rediscover the Nutcracker. In addition to the talented dancers, Les Grands Ballets Orchestra brings new life to this timeless classic with their performance of Tchaikovsky’s magnificent music. It's a perfect activity to do with your kids!
2. A shopping session in downtown
By using the underground network, you can shop in the various shopping malls located on Sainte-Catherine Street without stepping outside. It is great in cold weather! If you are looking for local Christmas gifts, then head to the Salon des métiers d'art at Place Bonaventure. Stock up on culture, local crafts, and discover the work of more than 400 professional artisans from across Quebec. And don't miss the return of the famous Nutcracker Market of Les Grands Ballets in the Palais des congrès!
3. A visit to art museums
Another indoor activity par excellence is visiting the art museums. From December 21 to January 7, admission to the Montreal Museum of Fine Arts’ discovery and permanent collection exhibitions is free in all five pavilions! It's time to enjoy it. If you are interested in contemporary art, you can admire the paintings of Janet Werner at the Musée d'art contemporain de Montréal.
In December, you will not be short of ideas for indoor activities in downtown Montreal. The holiday schedule is particularly impressive this year. For more information on all the end-of-year events, consult our 2019 Christmas Activity Guide.
